1978 Holland great Johan Cruyff missed the 1978 finals, with the Dutch FA originally claiming it was down to his distaste for the junta in Argentina. But 30 years later it was revealed Cruyff had pulled out because of worries over family security following a kidnap attempt. He said: “Someone had a rifle at my head and tied me up and tied up my wife in front of the children at our flat in Barcelona”.
